I'm Just an old chunk of coal; but, I'll be a diamond someday. For a sneak preview of the tentative schedule for the March 2009 Steamtown Regional ![]()
I'm not sure whether glory or masterpoints is first on the list, but I know learning to play better is definitely last. It's not whether you win or lose. it's how you place the blame - Thanks to Judy Stein, Laporte PA

If you are using an old version of Netscape or if your Internet Explorer is not current, I recommend that you go to www.microsoft.com and download the most current version of Internet Explorer. note: I write most of the personal messages (deaths, congradulations, illness, people leaving the area, etc.)that are posted here. However, I would rather that others submit messages to me because I am not very good at it. If you want something posted I will almost never refuse to post it. I think derogatory messages will be the only ones normally refused. 1911-2008
POCONO PARTNER
A duplicate partner
Who hopes I’ll soon learn
That penalties follow
A bid out of turn.
Her attitude ranks with
The kings and the queens
For she long ago learned
What “tolerance” means.
Adores new conventions
But I don’t take bets
For each one I master
She promptly forgets.
No negative player
Her senses excel
She messes with Michaels
Key Card, and Brozel
Opponents turn tricky?
And reneged enough?
She’ll call the director
And challenge their bluff
She doesn’t scold much
When my vulnerable double
Boxes us into
A handful of trouble.
A tactical player
Who’s mastered finesse
But what system she’s using
I often must guess!
Her hair (like her bidding)
Exceedingly light
In fact, I’d declare it
Short suited and white
In any position
North, South, East or West
Her bold interference
Ranks up with the best
Convinced that some nibbling
Fits in well with bridge
You might find Swiss chocolates
Arranged in her fridge
She jumps every chance
To compete with a slam
Till my Yarborough dummy
Lands her in a jam
One unguarded moment
I heard her confess
She sometimes drops bridge
For some Internet chess
She listens to music
Whenever she can
And calculates counting
At home with Chopin
When hands become boring
And sequences flat
She might sneak away
To play games with her cat.
If time should reshuffle
The hands in the deal
There’ll be no reverse of
The friendship I feel
Though she passes my club bid
Or trumps my good ace
Marietta will score
Up in gold master place.July 18, 2008 SEVERAL UNIT 120 MEMBERS ARE DOING WELL IN THE ACBL WIDE MASTERPOINT RACES (As of July 6)
June 30, 2008 (February 26, 1936 - June 27, 2008) On friday we lost Barbara Fink. I have known Barbara since the early 1990's and she is not only a fine bridge player but also a witty and very aware person. She always kept up with what was happening in the community and the world. I have never heard Barbara say anything unkind to or about anybody. Barbara was an ACBL Bronze Life Master. She and I had formed a regular partnership for about two or three years in the '90's. She won her first gold point playing with me in an instant matchpoint game in Hazleton. Barbara worked very hard to improve her game and as a result became one of the better bridge players in Northeast Pennsylvania. All those of us who were lucky enough to know her will miss Barbara very much. GWM KINGSTON, PA
